THE countdown to Weetwood 2017 is officially on. The announcements and activities for Toowoomba’s biggest race day of the year have begun and will roll out over the next few months.

The first Clifford Park announcement for Toowoomba’s favourite race is:

“It’s A Bloke Thing Foundation” has been chosen as the charity partner for Weetwood’s 2017 Pin & Win.

Toowoomba Turf Club Chief Executive Officer Blair Odgers said the partnership was sure to be a winner.

“The team behind the It’s a Bloke Thing Foundation is incredible – a force to be reckoned with. Clifford Park is excited to partner with them for next year’s Weetwood.”
The Weetwood Pin & Win promotion is part of Clifford Park’s community engagement strategy for the club’s biggest race day of the year.

“The It’s a Bloke Thing team will be selling pins in the lead-up to Weetwood with all proceeds from the campaign donated back to the Foundation – we encourage everyone to get on board to support this wonderful cause,” Mr Odgers said.

It’s A Bloke Thing has, in six years, become a major power-player on the local fundraising scene, raising more than $4 million to fund prostate cancer research, men’s health education and in 2016 funded Toowoomba’s first specialist prostate cancer nurse. The It’s a Bloke Thing Prostate Cancer annual luncheon has become the largest daytime fundraising event in Queensland attracting people from all over Australia and raising more than $1 million each year.

Gary Gardner, It’s a Bloke Thing Foundation Chairman, attributes the event’s success to the support from local and interstate businesses and the local community.

“Each year we are blown away by the support we receive from the Darling Downs community. Prostate cancer does not discriminate with 3,300 men dying from the disease each year and 20,000 cases diagnosed annually in Australia alone. We are very excited to partner with Clifford Park for Weetwood 2017 to raise vital funds to support finding a cure,” Mr Gardner said.

Look out for It’s A Bloke Thing volunteers selling Weetwood pins around the region, including at “The Longest Over” luncheon on Thursday, December 8 at Wellcamp Airport, featuring West Indian cricket legend, Sir Garfield Sobers.
