THERE will be a distinct Queensland flavour to this year’s revamped Ladbrokes Weetwood Calcutta event.

Legendary Queensland footballers – and tall tale technicians – Allan “Alfie” Langer and Steve Walters will go toe-to-toe on a panel alongside respect racing journalist Bart Sinclair at the now-lunchtime event at Clifford Park on Friday, April 7.

The panel will be moderated by Ladbrokes Media Manager Roger Oldridge, who will quiz the trio on their respective careers – each with their own tall tales to tell.

Toowoomba Turf Club Chief Executive Officer Blair Odgers said the panel would be highly entertaining for those attending the annual event and great value with four entertaining speakers.

“The pairing of Alfie Langer and his former teammate Steve Walters will prove a hit – I hear they have a great rapport and even better stories to tell,” Mr Odgers said.

“They are both Ipswich boys and I’m sure we’ll hear some stories that haven’t been heard before.

“Alfie and Steve will be joined on the panel by much-respected former racing journalist Bart Sinclair – the son of a top jockey and Stradbroke Handicap-winning trainer. He is one of the best- known and most respected racing media personalities in Australia and has a deep passion for the sport,” Mr Odgers said.

The crowd will also be entertained by respected Brisbane comedian Rob Brown, who has spent time working as a maximum-security prison officer and worked security and training security officers overseas.

Mr Odgers said the Calcutta event was popular each year. Those attending the event will be able to purchase Calcutta tickets which could see them selecting the winning of the Weetwood and taking home a sizeable winner’s purse. Tickets are $5 each and are on sale at Clifford Park and also at the Ladbrokes Weetwood Calcutta event.

Tickets for the Ladbrokes Weetwood Calcutta Sportsman’s Lunch are $85 per person and can be purchased by calling Clifford Park on 4634 6066 or online at www.weetwood.com.au
