David Russell knew he was on a winner when he decided to jump aboard Toowoomba’s premier racing event.

Six years later, Wippells Auto Group and Toowoomba Turf Club are still reaping those dividends as they prepare for the inaugural spring running of the Audi Centre Toowoomba Weetwood Handicap.

The iconic Audi Centre Weetwood Handicap highlights next Saturday’s Clifford Park race day when Toowoomba shines as Queensland’s major race meeting.

David is the group dealer principal of Wippells Auto Group, the home of Toowoomba’s Audi Centre.

He has been a long-time Clifford Park race-day supporter and saw his sponsorship involvement with the Weetwood as the perfect opportunity to link with one of the city’s most recognisable names and events.

“I attended most Weetwoods for 20-odd years and always enjoyed a Clifford Park race day,” David said.

“When the opportunity came along to be involved in Weetwood sponsorship, I couldn’t think of a more fitting event for Audi to be associated with.

“It is Toowoomba’s premier sporting and social celebration.

“When we did the first one, I knew as early as then it was something I wanted to be involved in for the long run, not just a couple of years.

“I would like Audi to be associated with Weetood long into the future.

“The Audi Centre Weetwood has become a household Toowoomba racing name.

“We have aligned well and it’s something we are all proud of.

“I believe the race has evolved to the next level.

“Last year, the staff and board of the club started working with Racing Queensland at solidifying the Weetwood in its new spring date.

“We are just delighted as well to have Skye Bogenhuber as our 2020 Face Of Weetwood.

“She will do a wonderful job.

“Everyone has got behind it and hopefully next Saturday will be a special day.”

# 2020 Face of Weetwood Skye Bogenhuber will drive an Audi, compliments of the Audi Centre during next week’s Weetwood celebrations.
